Michelle Trachtenberg, the beloved actress known for her roles in Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at the age of 39, police sources confirmed to The Post on Wednesday.
The Harriet the Spy star was found unresponsive in her New York City apartment near Columbus Circle early Wednesday morning. Authorities discovered her at approximately 8 a.m. local time at One Columbus Place, a luxury residential complex on Central Park South.
While the official cause of death has not been determined, sources revealed that Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant. Page Six has reached out to the New York coroner’s office and her representatives for further comment.
Trachtenberg rose to fame as a child star in the 1996 film Harriet the Spy before landing iconic roles as Dawn Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl. She also starred in the cult-favorite comedy EuroTrip and appeared in numerous other TV and film projects throughout her career.
Concerns about the actress’s health surfaced last year after she shared social media posts in which she appeared noticeably different. Some fans expressed worry over her thinning hair and a yellowish tint in her eyes, prompting speculation about her well-being. Her most recent Instagram post, shared a week ago, was a throwback photo of herself with the caption, “I wanted to look like naughty,” referencing her green dress. On February 12, she posted a more recent selfie with the caption, “Eye of the Tiger.”
Despite past speculation, police sources have stated that her death is not being treated as suspicious.
